Welcome to Old Cross Alpacas
Our traditional hill farm lies high in the Pennines on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border. At a height of 1200ft we have wonderful views overlooking Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire. In the past our location was considered isolated, but that changed in 1967 when the trans-pennine motorway was built. We are now just 1.5 miles from junction 22 on the M62 motorway.
Since starting our herd in 1999 with five females we now have 50 alpacas at our farm. Through selective breeding we have seen a marked improvement, particularly in the crimp and micron count of the fleece.
Alpacas are intelligent, sociable and curious. Kept as pets they can easily be halter trained and their gentle nature and quiet disposition means they can fit in with almost any lifestyle. Alpacas are becoming increasingly popular with both smallholders and larger enterprises. This expanding industry is backed by the British Alpaca Society, and the British Camelids Trust.
